    First Axis!!!! Long read

Well I have officially completed my first ever exotic hunt. I went with my son, Westen (5 years old), to the Diamond C. From every thing I have seen and heard about this place it was going to be the perfect place to go for my first trip.

Westen and I arrived at about 1:00 on the 20th and quickly met Skyler and his dad Shane. We got settled in and they took me and Westen around the ranch. We saw just about ever critter you could think of, And lots of them. I was pumped for the hunt. Skyler said he would pick us up at 5:45 so we could hunt from 6 to 9. Once in the blind, we were immediately surrounded by animals. I couldn't keep my son from hanging out the windows and pointing to every one of them. I didn't think we would get a shot at anything because they would all come into about 75 yards and lock up. Either it was my son banging his head and feet on the blind or it was him talking. Well as luck would have it he layed down and was going to take a nap. Just then 2 Aoudad showed up. As I came to full draw and was squeezing the release Westen jumps up and says what is it??? I jumped and the Aoudad did too! I shot like 10 feet over his back! Well for the rest if the night nothing else came in.

The next morning Westen didn't want to go out. He told me to go and that he would just sleep in and relax. This is coming from a 5 year old remember. So Skyler took me out to "the killing tree". Great spot by the way! As soon as Skuler left I had Fallow, blackbucks, whitetails and sikas. I almost shot the blackbuck but he chased off a fallow. I told my self to be patient and to relax. Not 10 minutes later a noticed a axis doe at the feeder. I looked to my left and say a nice axis buck working his way in. I didn't wait very long and came to full draw as soon as he came into an opening. My shot felt good, and I thought it was. But as soon as Skyler and I looked at the arrow we knew it was too far back.

We looked for about an hour and decided to pull out and give him time and wait for birds to help us. Fast forward till 4:30 and we went back out too look. No birds in the air and it wasn't looking too good. Skyler dropped me off with his brother and he and his dad went to another spot to look. After 20 minutes he texted me and told me he found him!

Sorry for the long read, but this is my first exotic hunt and I am very excited about it. I already dropped him off for a shoulder mount too!!!

If it wasn't for Skyler and Lucy I probably would have never found him!
