    How important is it to...

Have a rangefinder if you are on a small property like mine. I do know from my blind to the feeder is 25 yards exact. My question is do I really need to own one?

I can understand if I hunt on someone else's property such as on an invitation that it may be worthwhile to invest one in.

Wanting to see what all y'all have to say about that? Thanks.

Reason for my asking is because someone recently suggested that I buy one. I was thinking I really don't need it so hence my question.

Work hard on your range estimating skills--at normal bow hunting ranges out to 30 yds, and with modern equipment, you'll be OK. I hunt 3 different places with 7 different stand sites and am completely familiar with them so don't need the RF. On occasion I am a guest on a high-fenced place with 30+ stands and it comes in handy there.

I have one and rarely use it.When I go some where new/different I'll pack it along.

Go shoot 3D shoot and you will understand the need for a range finder. If you can nail the range right every time, you can do real well shooting 3D’s. My memory is not what it used to be. If find it helpful to “re-range” landmarks when I get on the stand on in the blind. Even being a handful of yards off can make a difference in putting an arrow where you want it.

If the company that makes the rangefinder sponsors the show on TV, then you can not possibly ever be a successful hunter without one. Not Ever, don't even try it!

Honestly, just like anything else, it has it's uses but it's not THAT important each and every time you make a shot.

you dont need one if you know your 10yd, 20yd, and 30yd marks. they are cool though but i know i wouldnt be shootin a whitetail farther than 30yds.

Between golf and shooting I use it all the time.

I use mine quite a bit. It is a nice accessory to have but is not necessary.

I got one a couple of years ago. I spend more time 'playing' with it than actually ranging deer.
I know exactly how far my feeder is and my shooting area is all in that general range.

                    I use mine a bunch.

When I was younger though, I did not have a rangefinder, but had a 100' rope with knots tied in it at 20 and 30 yards, I would stretch it out in my hunting area and mark yardages that way with flagging tape all around my blind.

It think it all depends on the individual and how, where you hunt. Sounds like in your case you probably dont need one and it wouldnt be worth the money to buy one if your not going to use it very often. I hunt several different places and a lot of different stand locations so I use mine a lot when I hunt. Some stands are pop-ups, some tri-pods, some hanging stands and the distances look different from different angles. Also use it a lot to practice my ranging skills. I will look at a tree or object, make a guess as to how far it is, then shoot it with the range finder to verify. Helps to learn how your distances. Other suggestion is that if you are going to buy one, make sure you get a good one.

I have never seen the need for one if you know your area and the shots you will be taking will be fairly close like the setup you are describing.

Thanks for the response! Appreciate it. Since I was told my first pin's set up would be 0-25 as I set it up that way instead of out to 20 yards. I figure I should be good unless I am on an invite hunt then I try to walk my distance and figure out how many yards and etch that in my mind.

I figure I could use 500.00-1,000.00 on something else more useful than a rangefinder.

Or borrow from someone that invited me!

I don't think one is needed unless you are hunting long range as in rifles 300+ yds

If you only plan to shoot an animal under you feeder, one would not be necessary. Any where else it can allow you to shoot with more confidence and make recovery faster.
