    Nikon D3100 or Canon T3

Getting ready to get my first SLR digital camera in the next few months. Went to best buy and talked to the camera guy. He said the difference in the two was the Canon was more user friendly and easier to learn. But he said the Nikon had better lenses. What does the green screen say?

I would suggest you research and make up your own mind by getting your hands on each one and seeing how you like one from the other. There really is little difference in the two brands and it comes down to what seems to be more user friendly for you individually. You will ultimately become familiar with the one you buy over time but one may just seem to make more sense to you as to the layout.
Don't rush yourself and try to educate yourself as much as possible so you really know what is setting one model apart from another as you may elect to not buy either one of those models, not that there is anything wrong with them. Study some online camera reviews and some youtube videos as you can get a lot of information there but again beware as some will push a particular brand because that is what they have.
    Now go get that NIKON.

I have the D3100 and love it. The video option on it is fantastic. It came with te 18-55 mm lens and I have since added a 70-300mm lens for sports and wildlife. Really enjoy it.

I have had Canon and Nikon. The Canon cameras are more user friendly, but I just recently went back to the Nikon 3100. Check out Cameta.com. They are the cheapest I have found if you are looking for a kit. And great customer service.

Wow! Everything I had been reading up to this point said the Nikon was better. But I took the side by side photo quiz of which photos I liked and Canon came up the winner Twice.

As someone else stated, I believe Nikon has a much better lens selection and you will quickly learn that the true quality of you pics will come from the glass you use.

1+ for Canon here, L Glass will hang with the best out there and more options than you have money to buy. To me whichever one you choose spend your money on the glass. New bodies are like computers, hot this year but old news and worth a lot less in a year.

All of the L lens that I own can be sold today for more than I paid for them. Make your choice and stick with it as it can be expensive to change camps a year or two down the road.

I have both (work issues me a d300s). In the beginning I liked the T3i cause of ease of settings. After a 40 hour photo class (work paid ) with the nikon. I like it better.

Get what you want and learn to run it. And NOT in auto! The cannon I have is much lighter than the nikon but the N is a metal body

All good advice here. Go try them both out and pick the one you like best. For the most part, Canon users will tell you to buy Canon and Nikon users will tell you Nikon is the way to go. That being said, go get ya a Canon!

The canon t3i is an older model, if you can get the t4i or even t5i

While at Walmart tonight I went to the camera area where they had both out for display. I handled both to see which one felt better in my hand. I like the way the Canon had all the buttons together and easy to reach. The Nikon had buttons everywhere on the front and side.

Most of the buttons you will use on the Nikon are on the right
