Thought somebody here might benefit from this. I have been wanted a better way to carry my yak in my small Nissan Frontier crew cab yet keep my soft tonneau in place. After much searching I was unhappy with the options available for purchase, mainly due to high prices. So, necessity is the mother...
Started with some 16 gauge 6"x24" plates and a cheap bender from harbor freight. I tried once without the bender and just wasted money so it was worth the purchase. The rest of the construction should be pretty well explained in the pics. Thought about using uni-strut but that stuff is heavier than I wanted. Searched around and found some C channel that is made for shelving. Not sure how well it will hold up in the weather but if I see it deteriorating, I'll probably spray line the whole thing.
Now this is NOT a heavy duty rack but it should be plenty strong for my 35lb boat (yes, I'm bragging )
