    Show Your Disc Cooker/Discada

Ok I started building my first disc cooker last night. I have the hole welded shut and the handles on, but as to where I go from there, I have no clue. So I thought the ol' GS might be able to help. So post them up, show us what you got. I will post pictures tonight.

What is the best way to cure it?

Coat it in lard and get it red hot...

I know this is proabably a stupid question, but can I burn all the paint off of it or to I have to grind it off? I thought about just uilding a fire in it and getting it really hot that way.

I'm sure you could but I would just grind it myself.

I sand all mine down till they look like this. Main thing in IMO is to make the cooking surface as smooth as possible.

I cure mine different than some. I'll get the disc hot then coat with manteca. Wipe excess out and repeat the process 3 times.

I finished mine yesterday & cooked fajitas on it after I seasoned it.

My uncle just gave me one that was used as a step over a fence on the pond dam. Burned it in brush pile yesterday. Gonna season it with oil and bacon grease this week. Then comes the deer cubes peppers and onions.

So what are you guys using for discs and how do you "season" one?

If I ever build a second one, before I welded the horse shoes onto the disc, I'd go to a hardware store and get a 6 or 8" spring and slide it around the horse shoe to make the handles cooler and able to lift up without wearing leather gloves when it's really hot and I want to pour out oil or whatever.

The other 'thing' I did with mine was weld 3 big bolts equally around the bottom, so if I ever wanted to use it over a camp fire all I had to do was buy some threaded rod and screw the 3 pieces in, and push them down in the ashes. Several years later I've never done it. But I could!
