How to get into public hunts?

I hear about all of these drawings for WMA's and things of different sort but I have no clue how to get included on all this public land and WMA fun,

    Someone?

When you buy a public hunting permit you will receive booklets for the drawings on the WMA's. Usually get the books mid-summer and have to be sent in by a deadline.

The public hunting permit will give you access to hundreds of WMA's across the state for public hunting.

You don't have to buy the permit to enter most of the drawings.
There is the APH, which allows you to hunt mostly small game, doves, ducks, etc. A few places allow hogs and/or deer. Some of these also have "postcard" drawings for deer.

The public draw hunts are totally seperate and do not require the APH. For most, you pay $3 per chance, and have to enter by a certain date. If drawn, you pay either $80 or $130 depending on length of hunt for your permit for that area.

Go online to TPWD and click on public hunting for more information.

Any TPWD office should have the book also by early August. You can just stop in and grab one or like mentioned above go online and enter.

Its not a true online system though, just be forwarned. You will still have to submit via mail.

Also contact the USFWS for opportunities.

And the Army COE around the lakes. The COE I hunt around Lake Whitney is bowhunting only but completely free and full of opportunity.
