Modified our circle trap yesterday.

We had a huge hog get in our circle trap and trashed the door and then climbed out over the destroyed door. So an upgrade was in order.

I picked up a saloon door off craigslist and we installed it along with a shoot to the loading door. That should help load the big boar if we can get to him before he climbs out again.

The walls are 5 foot and we have barbed wire six inches below the ground to discourage burrowing out since the trap is in a sandy area.

Wish me luck. Somebody's going home with something on opening day. Venison or pork!

Amazing how fast a larger boar can climb out of one though. Drove into the pasture one morning and thought "dang, I caught a calf" but then remembered there aren't any black calves in the pasture. Drove up to the trap and he went up and over. I'm standing there with a .22 pistol feeling pretty under-gunned. Now I take the .22-250 with me and if there is a big one in the trap, I stop out at 150 yds and pop 'em.

The first night we had this one set we trapped total of 22.

My brother wandered down on foot to take a look and a huge boar jumped out and charged him then ran off.

I went down in the truck and the thing came after me so I used my CCW on him and shot him in the neck.

I hate to lose them that big but that thing wanted to come in the window of the truck.

Soon after we raised the height to 5 feet.

It's been a very productive trap for several years now.

Never had one destroy the door like that though.

We had a nice young boar in the circle trap this morning so I guess he figured out the saloon door.

Had a total of 6 today.
