Ok, so I know there can not be any "bark penetrating" stands used, but is a climbing stand considered bark penetrating? It has teeth that I guess slightly penetrates the tree, so I am assuming I can not use it? If this is the case, is there any way to make the stand non-bark penetrating. I was thinking maybe rigging some thick rubber on top of the teeth or something of that nature?

On the larger trees it is difficult for the stand to penetrate the thicker bark. It may scratch the bark a bit but not penetrate it in most cases. On younger small trees, I've seen it happen slightly though. So choose your tree wisely. What they are most concerned with is the holes screw in steps make, and the like. They leave a place for the sap to run out, disease to set in, and insects that destroy trees to get in easier, and kill or damage the tree.
