    David Oakes Bows?

    Anyone have any opinions of David Oakes Bows in San Antonio?

    Looking at one of his Recurves, but I've heard his "Flat" bows are interesting as well.

    I noticed that he likes to put heavy antlers on the limb tips, his bows draw smooth but that release with those heavy limb tips sure does make for a shocky bow, my opinion, i have shot his longow and his recurve. If he made the limb tips lighter he would have a smoother bow.

          hereford;
          I have shot several of David's bows. I like the longbows and flatbows. They throw a heavy arrow well. I have never noticed any hand shock. Just wish I had bought one when he first started out and they were half what he wants for them now.

          David is a good guy to work with as well. He lives about eight miles from me.

            I am not taking anything from David at all he is a good guy,but I think Sarrels has the better bow and his new recurve is SWEET! IMO I think Sarrels has a better warranty and product.

              I can't really give you an honest assessment of David's bows. I've had the opportunity several times to shoot one, I just haven't. They sure are some pretty bows and David's a great guy. If you like the bow and the price is right, I'd say go for it.

                      My buddy has three of them. He builds a fine bow. Of my buddy's three I like his "new" model recurve the best. I would consider the recurve above the others.

                        I have shot his recurve at the Bow Shop in San Antonio it was pretty decent, but his longbow and flatbow are real shocky to me, David Oakes prefers his recurve, the only problem i think his bows have are his limb tips are so bulky and heavy, when you start shooting a few trad bows, you know why people spend the money for widows, ACS, Bob Lee's, lots of people like Morrison bows I think they have a lot of preload and it feels like your pulling on a leaf spring, but in the morrisons defense it was built for someone with a 2"shorter draw length. But you can't hide hand shock. My Bruin is one of the smoothest recurves i have shot. Anyone in the San Antonio area out in Garden Ridge that wants to shoot it is welcome too.
                        I also love the DAS bow, great smooth quick bow. I also think that the Martin dream catcher and the savannah is a better bow than the flat and long bows oakes bows i have shot.
                        But I am a Black Widow man for life.

                          Not trying to hijack this thread but Bowbuddy...I am looking for a side-mount Selway like the one on the bow you are selling...would you consider selling the quiver off the bow?

                              You know, I don't even know what they are new. I have a slide on Selway...don't suppose you want one of those as partial trade? How can I reach you? I think I have your number somewhere from when I was going to take a class in SA but don't remember where I put it. Let's figure something out.
