    Minimum poundage for hunting

Well my wife has decided to take up bowhunting. This was of her own accord, so we are in the process of getting her set up. She is picking up her bow tomorrow. Mission craze with a 26.5 draw length. She is comfortable @ 35lbs but I'm trying to convince her to up to atleast 40lbs. What do you guys think? Can you get enough penetration with 35lbs @ 26.5 draw? Anyway it will be nice to hunt with the wife this season.

To answer your question, YES, as I have seen pass-thrus on whitetails with roughly the same set-up,(32#) and a 2-blade Fixed head. More weight would be better, but it will do the job for sure. I would recommend shots Under 20 yards. Good luck to her !

I don't claim to be an expert but I would say with that set up, 35 lbs should be enough to take a white tail up to 30 yards with proper shot placement and a good sharp cut on contact broadhead. Although, 40 lbs and the closer the better. This is just my opinion.

My kid shoots about the same specs. Had a pass through on a 168# hog and killed a black buck Drt. Both shots st 20yds. She has also killed a couple smaller pigs. I will let her shoot a deer given the chance
With a cut on contact Magnus. I was going to letter her take a zebra if we could have gotten a 15yd shot.

well that is good to know. Our set up is about 17 yards to the feeder so I think she will be ok.

What exactly is meant by "cut on contact"? Aren't all fixed blade broadheads "cut on contact" ?

No. Muzzy shuttle t and others have a chizzle tip. Cut on contact means sharp cutting edged all the way to the front of broadhead. We have had great luck with her set up using Magnus heads

Another thing.. if she can shoot it on 35 to start, after a very shot time her muscles will develop and the 40 + will not be a problem. my daughter started with about the same set up and in about three weeks of shooting three are four times a week she was at 42#.

Cut on Contact does exactly that. the Blade is the leading "point" of contact / entry, which start slicing immediately, vs a long ferrule that is more for puncturing which allows the blades to follow.

notice the Magnus vs the Muzzy
