How often should you replace the strings on a compound bow? Mine has the factory strings on it, which are about 4 or 5 years old. I have no idea how many shots have been fired from it. i will be honest though, I dont practice nearly as much as I should so its not as many as most of you guys can put on one in that time.

I was never a big believer in replacing the strings until I did it and man can it make a difference. Had a Hoyt that was about 4-5 years old, the strings looked great but I had a couple of extra bucks and thought, "what the heck".I put new strings on it and it shot like a brand new bow. It was faster and now I change mine every 2 years. Lots of pretty good string makers out there. I have a buddy of mine that when he buys a bow the first thing he does is get rid of the factory strings and gets a custom set. I aint there yet but after 4-5 years I'd say your due.
