    Protein feeder

Cranked out a protein feeder today. Dad had the barrel from years ago. An extra ring and funnel already welded on. He says its holds 600# of corn.

How does corn compare to protein? This will be my first time to feed protein. If it holds 600# of corn how many # of protein will it hold?

I cut a cap to attach to the bottom of the angles. Hopefully to keep protein from pouring out.

I'd guess prob 450-500 in protein. I could be wrong though

Looks good but I would be concerned that if it rains much that it will get all clogged up. The reason I say this is I think your cup you added will catch the rain and that will clog it up. Of course I've been wrong before and could be wrong about this. Good luck and I hope it works out great for you.

Yea i was thinking about that too. I am going to drill some holes on the bottom so if any gets in there it wont sit.

My dad says that would just make cereal for the babies

Just a thought, put a couple of small self tapping screws in the cup part, attaching it to the tube section. This way if by chance a coon or hog puts pressure on the glued on cup part, there will be extra support.

The feeder looks good and I also second the smal drain holes in the bottom of the tube.

If you have cows it will need a pen, mix corn and protein pellets together at first then wean them off the corn
