    Need Ideas

Ok guys I am a little lost,.....need some help with the door on this thing.

Its 73 1/4" in height and 39 1/2" wide and right now my hinges are on the front of where the door is gonna be....my ???? is how big do I make the door and should it be in one solid piece or two pieces?? I am wanting to put a small 2x2 window in the middle of the door and to me one soild piece would be easier so is this true and also how do I mount my hinges.....leave them where they are or move them to the side?? And yeah I know red is not the typical color for a stand but I had it extra so why waste it?? Thanks in advance.

well one sheet of plywood is 48x96
1/2" or 5/8" would work best, screw a 1/4 around the edge and a couple across the middle for support

Thanks ^^^^^^ this is what I was thinking but should the door be the full siz or does it need to be shorter and lees width to close the right way??

A simple 5/8 or 3/4 plywood door would work fine with 3 or 4 el cheapo hinges. You can always use thinner plywood or T111 if you have scraps from the build and make a simple 2x2 frame to stiffen up the door.

Don't worry about the red paint either. I dont think the deer will care. But... you could trim it with white garland and bells and spotlight for reindeer too. They aren't a native species just replace the corn for carrots

Go get a metal (tin type) door from a second hand shop... Should be able to pick it up for 10-20 bucks... Width is the most important issue for you. 39" to 39 1/4" if you can find one. If not buy a larger one and cut it down to fit. (cut on hinge side)

Id frame in that piece of the blind above the door. ( The one that is bigger on the right than the left because of the roof slope.) That way you don't have to mess with an un rectangular door. (right angles are easy to build)

When you cut the door you will need to re support the edge that you cut with a 2x2 held in place by some screws. cut to your width then to your length.

Grab a dead bolt to use as your lock.

For the window in the door use a single sheet of plexiglass with two hinges. if your plexiglass measures 24x12 cut a 20x8 square out out the door and frame it with the 2x2's inside the two pieces of door metal (like on the total width and height cut)

I use weather strip pieces for a seal from the window to the door and have my windows held shut with a wing nut on a bolt drilled through the door in the 2 bottom corners. To open turn wings up and down (so window will clear) open it all the way up and its held in place with an eye bolt and latch (or another bolt wing nut combo) Let me see if I can find some pics.

                      Easier to build. Sure.

Better? Tell me that after you have bumped your head on it 1000 times and scrapped your gun barrel up on it..

I like a nice size door and a porch on an elevated blind. Its just personal preference but I hate trap doors... So difficult to maneuver in with all my cold gear on, a rifle (sometimes 2) , and back pack.

Here's a pic of my favorite blind door... Full size house door. No ducking to get in.

Second pic is a ground blind I got on the cheap. Its not tall enough to stand up in but it was priced right!

Make that door as big as possible. Ain't gonna hurt a thing!

Now if you really want comfort. Install insulation on walls and ceiling, then paint dark green or black.

I built my blinds with 1/2 doors and now my Father has reached the age and shape (out of) that he can no longer get into them easily - to the point that my next build will be with a full size door so he can get in & out easier.

This is why I was thinking of a large door, some of the guys on this lease have some issues and I was just trying to be nice...
