    Is it normal

when you order a string from a vendor at a shoot for it to take a month or longer to arrive? I went to my first traditional shoot a month ago and while I was there I ordered a skinny string to try and see how I liked it. Well I waited a while and finally emailed him getting a reply on the 16th saying he hadn't forgot and was busy with work from the shoot and would have it out that week to me. As of now it still has not arrived. If I had know it would have taken this long I wouldn't have bothered with ordering the string. I guess I have learned not to order anything at shoots now. Sorry about the rant but just a little aggrevated.

Have you contacted the seller since the 16th? I sure would.

Not yet been giving extra time assuming the mail could be running slow.

If it were me, I'd sure make contact again now and I'd send an email and make a phone call.

HC - I do know that when I was heavily inundated with orders it could take a month to get caught up. Anyone making strings usually goes by their list - I would help out if the string was needed for a hunt or a tournament and the buyer was in a bind and honest about the rush!

Sorry you have not received your string, there are many others even on TBH that make a great skinny string. As a matter of fact some of the finest in the country!

I ordered a skinny string and they stated it would take 2-3 weeks, I'm on the 3rd week now, sometimes they get behind but it would be great if they would let you know something. Really aint no big deal in my case because I'm waiting on my Hoyt Dorado to come in, but I hope the string is here when the bow gets here.

To me, communication on things is very important! If your gonna say you will have something out in X amount of time and you get behind, take a second to let customers know what is going on. Yes, this takes a little time, but it will keep me as a customer where not letting me know anything and dragging it out will bring negative comments if anyone ever asks about that persons work. Good communication is as important if not more so than timely work.

A string builder who has a lot of orders, and goes through all of the processes to make the string right for you without taking short cuts has a job.

My processes require a full 24 hours per string. With the setup I have I can do 10 a day, but I turn out on average 5 a day, and it keeps me real busy doing it.

If I were you, I would contact the builder again a.s.a.p.
I bet he is trying his best to take care of you.

Most of the guys at shoots have full time jobs as well as there archery business so it can take longer.

I just learned to make my own strings. It doesn't cost much to get started and you can build them the way want them. And it's not difficult to do either. But like anything you do, you get what you put into it.

Trick thanks for the advice. I can build regular flemish strings but have never built a skinny string. They are fun for me to build. I am just hesitant to try my hand at making a skinny string at this moment.
Thanks for the advice everyone I appreciate the thoughts on this subject.

Skinny string is no harder to build than a regular string. Just have to add extra to the loops to get it safe. I ad 4 extra 10" lengths to each end to get what I consider safe. Got to remember to stagger the additions so the things looks good.

figuring out serving is the hardest part. Write it down and when you get the right combo , you'll have it. I double serve my skinny strings , first with nock thread then with serving based on # of strands. I tried padding the serving area but always ends up looking squiggly.
I pad all my loops to 14 strands. I also only use D97 material.

How skinny of a string you gettin?

I've settled on 10 strands of d97 with 12 to 14 strands in the loops. I'm using .030 serving and it fits my goldtip nocks great. I guess that would be considered a skinny string. ??? After stretching the finished string it doesn't move after 100 shots or so. You already know how to make a Flemish string so your 99% there. You just have to figure how to lay the extra strand out in the loops which isn't hard once you sit down and do it. At any rate hope this helps if you decide to give it a try.

The string I was getting was an 8 strand string. I think I will order me some d97 string material and play around with making some as all I have right now is b-50. I am sure I can make one but will take me several tries to get it figured out right on padding the loops. Thanks Mr. Sarrels, Huntinpool, and Trick on the tips for making the string.
