flex test & inspect your arrows

Ok, I've only been shooting carbon arrows for a little over a year. I saw this post and didn't want to high jack the thread:

What are you doing as a flex test and what are you inspecting on your arrows?

I grab. The arrow on both ends and flex it inward and outward and listen for any cracking or see any splinters. I actually had a carbon crossbow bolt that was splintered from getting hit by another arrow, you couldn't see any splintering until it was flexed. Since then I check all my arrows and bolts before every session and if I hear any contact with arrows

Flex before you shoot. Pull them out of the target and flex each time... Grab by both ends and bend it a little then I rotate a 1/4 turn it do it again... If it makes a cracking noise, splinters, or creaks it goes in the project pile.

No thanks on the carbon injection in my hand!!!

When I grab both ends and flex the arrow, I just roll it around where the bow of the arrow makes a complete circle and listen for anything in all directions.

        I've since swapped to FMJ's...

          Are FMJ's splinter/explosion proof?

No. A FMJ is an aluminum coated carbon arrow. They will have a tendency to bend and be unshootable, before they will splinter and break. Flexing them could also cause them to bend.

I THOUGHT I did a good job of checking my arrows, but last Thursday evening I discovered otherwise. The arrow snapped in two about 2.5" from the nock. Consequently, much like a dry-fire, the cable jumped off the cams. Now my bow is in the shop for repairs and my arm is a bit boogered up.

CHECK THOSE ARROWS END TO END!!!!

Yikes! This is why I shoot FMJs.
