    hog euro in progress..

***disclaimer...i am by no means an expert at euro mounts.. this is just the way i am trying it.. so be nice.. lol***

had a few (9) skulls in my freezer i have been meaning to practice on.. nice day out this morning figured i would give it a go..

start with my boar skull.. cleaned off what i could out in the swamp i hunt in before the mosquitos ran me out.. so it is a bit messy.. came home and went right into the freezer.. left it out to thaw some last night and around 10 am started to simmer..

i dont have a propane cooker so i am using yard clean up pieces of wood and getting some good practice at controling heat on the smoker..

now for it to simmer for a good while..
    more to come..

ok about 5 hours in.. pulled it out for a de-fleshing.. carefull here.. the dogs will circle..

turn your back for a second and they will strike.. haha

scraped off a good lil bit.. most of it just pulled away, the pain is the cartilage.. it is sticky and mushy.. back side of the blade works good when it is still nice and warm. nose and nasal cartilage pulls out at this point, also be careful as the gum line comes off the teeth start to fall out..

back in the pot for some more cooking.. still have the brain and alot of cartilage attached..

ok few more hours down the road.. about every half hour or so took em out and did a quick scrape and back in the pot before they cooled down.. bottom jaw is pretty much done.. pulled out the front teeth and the tusks, need to boil out the junk left in the holes... the havilon knife is about 7" open so you get an idea of the size of the tusk..

top jaw is going to take longer.. lot more nooks for tendons and junk.. pain in the rear mostly.. and the brain cavity is really annoying.. reaching in with the brush and mushing it all up and dunk in the boiling water to get out those parts out and then repeating.. but pretty much close to all the bits out..

Man, Rid-X and one day and it is all over. Waaaaaaaaay better way to do it than boiling and you don't loose any teeth. Looking good so far............

ok last for the night... last 40 minutes on the fire i dumped some dawn dish soap into the murky simmer... got the sink full of nice hot clean water with dawn to soak the skull after a good rinse with hot water to get all the bits that were floating around in the pot..

so filled that sink to submerge the skulls and soak in the soap for about an hour.. pull some of that grease out..
dry off with paper towels, (which a nice dry paper towel does well in pulling off the gummy cartilage..) and a quick shot of it together before i break it all back down to dry for the night..

tomorrow start the bleach... night folks..

That stuff is ok. It's actually only about 12% peroxide, the 40 volume is just what they call it. I would find a Leslie's pool store and by a bottle or 2 of baquacil oxidizer, it's 27% peroxide and will work well.

Depending on what I'm trying to whiten, I use the Volume 40, BO and I've also got some 50% peroxide. Looking good so far on the pig.

On the pigs, drill 3 small holes on the inside of the lower jaw to release all the grease and marrow, drill bit will hit a big "pocket", or you will get yellow grease stains.

                          Looks great!

I'm still waiting on nature to run it's course on my deer head in the ground from Kansas this last year! It should be ready in April or May then it's off to the beauty supply store for some peroxide!
