Results of Our First Family Trad Shoot = Proud Dad!

My two boys and I shot our first 3-D tourney at Austin Archery this past Sunday and had a BLAST! We are just getting into the trad side of archery as a family and are really enjoying it. My wife does not shoot but she was behind the camera the whole time

Roman is 9 and is a lefty. Quinton is 15 and they both are shooting recurves.
All three of us just got new bows; the boys got theirs for Christmas and I bought a used longbow last week. The boys just joined the Tuesday night league at KC's and until 3 weeks ago, they had never shot past 10 or 12 yards.

The tourney was 30 targets, 1 arrow at each. Some were out to 27 yards with none closer than 10. Roman ended up taking 1st place with a 217! He even beat the majority of the adult recurve shooters. Needless to say, it was a Proud Dad moment Quinton was the only shooter in his class and he shot a 151 and ol' Dad took 2nd with a 174 in Longbow and my last arrow on the last target was a 12 ring.

We ran into Deb on the course and she graciously gave me a few pointers Really nice to meet you Deb. Wild weather as well! It sleeted and snowed on us at the last part of the course and snowed pretty good while we were waiting on scores.

A very memorable day! Here are a few pics.

Congrats to you all!!!. Normally I would have been there too but with an all trad 40 target TboT shoot just down the road at Canyon Lake I did not make this one. 3D is a blast and there are shoots on nearly every Sunday of the month within a reasonable distance. I'm sure we will meet up at another one in the future.

Looks like a great time was had by everybody!

Congratulations to all. Y'all did great and if those boys can shoot that good under those conditions, they'll really be lights out when it's nice outside.

Most of all congrats to you for taking the time to spend with you boys and teaching them to shoot.

I'm sure we will Bisch and I look forward to it. I need more info on TBOT, maybe we should be members in more clubs (?)

Yup, it was pretty cold and I had no idea it was going to be. I woke up at 7:00, looked at the forecast on my phone and had no idea there was a front coming! I had to dig out all of our cold weather gear and make lots of hot chocolate! I was not about to have cold kiddos on our 1st shoot, that's for sure!

It was good to meet you JPBruni. I wish we would have had more time to visit, but when it started to sleet I headed for home. It was very cold. I had on so many layers that it was hard to walk. I am blaming my poor shooting on that. It was one of those aggravating rounds where I shot well on the first 15 (140) and couldn't hit squat on the last 15 (98). Congrats to you and the boys. Y'all did good. Hope to see you at the Texas Traditional Champioship in March.

                          J.P.,

I join all the local clubs I shoot at but you do not have to be amember of any of the clubs to come out and enjoy the shoots.

Here is a list of 3D opportunities in central Texas:

1st Sun of the month (March thru Aug) - Bastrop Cty Bowhunters - Rockne, Tx - http://bastropbowhunters.com/

2nd Sun of the month (Jan thru Sept) - Austin Archery Club - Austin, Tx - http://www.austinarcheryclub.com/

3rd Sun of the month (Feb thru Aug) - Fredericksburg Archery Club - http://fredericksburgarcheryclub.com/calendar.htm

4th Sun of the month (Feb thru Sept) - Hill Country Bowhunters - Seward Junction - http://www.hillcountrybowhunters.com/3DInformation.htm

There is also a club in Waco (Huaco Bowmen) that has shoot on Sat and Sun but no website. Here is their schedule:

This is the Schedule for 2012:

                          February 11-12th
                          March 10-11th
                          April 7-8th
                          May 5-6th
                          June 9-10th

September 8-9th BOWHUNTER WARMUP according to last year this shoot is epic.

There is also a club in Bryan/College Station - Brazos Cty Archery Club - Check out their website for their shoot schedule - http://brazoscountyarchery.com/index...d=16&Itemid=29

Also, There are TBoT shoots. TBoT is the Traditional Bowhunters of Texas and they have all trad shoots that are very well attended and just a hoot to be at if you shoot trad gear. Here is a link to TBoT's website. Check them out and see if you would be interested in joining.

And here is a thread with a schedule of all the ALL TRAD shoots for 2012 (scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the most updated schedule). Check it out and see if you can make any of the shoots. These shoot are all set up by trad shooters for trad shooters. If you could only make one or two, then try to go to the Hill Country Shootout in Vanderpool, April 14 & 15 or The Glenn Parker Stickbow Roundup in Chester, May 19 & 20. These two shoots are two of the premier shoots in Texas and will have upwards of 500 scorecards turned in in one weekend. They are both AWESOME experiences!

I hope this info helps to give you more opportunity to come out and play!
