Best DFW Shop for Traditional Gear

Title says it all. I'm new to traditional shooting and am looking for a good shop that has a decent selection of gear to get started out with. Thanks for the input.

I'm not from up there but I have heard some good things about Smithfield Archery shop. I think for the most part though, that you will find 3 Rivers archery on;ine to be your best friend in this dept.

P.S. - I typed this at the archery shop here and did not realize that I was not looged in - Sorry!

There's got to be one around somewhere. The shop I frequent has very little trad gear, and what they do have has been sitting there for many years, evidenced by the 1/4" layer of dust on it!

Most of the archery shops that I've been in were like the one Jerp mentioned. About the only one that had much at all was David's in Weatherford and it's still slim pickens. You couldn't fill one shelf at any store, if you added everything together from all the stores. Cabela's in Fort Worth or Allen has as much as any place I've been.

T and Son's in Denton and Nix Shooting Supplies in Lewisville USED to carry decent inventory and had pesonnel that actually knew what they were doing. They've been closed and gone for years (gone by way of Academy and others) and I haven't heard of anything around DFW to take their place.

The owner at Cinnamon Creek told us at last year's TBoT shoot there that he wanted to put in a Trad shop, but haven't heard anything about it since. I'll ask him about it again at the TBoT in April.

Stan at Smithfield can probably get you pointed in the right direction. Or, get with meangene1969 on here and he can get you pointed in the right direction.

I don't remember the name, but what ever happened to the archery shop that was in the little strip mall on the south side of Ft Worth right on the loop?

That was a heck of a good place for trad gear. I used to love to work out that way, just so I could go there.

Rick - You mean Trophy Archery? That closed in the 90's. I bought my first compound bow there.

Rick, that was Trophy Archery, they've been closed at least 10 years. I bought my first bow there in the mid 90's. Remember all of those old longbows and recurves they had hanging from the ceiling? I'm pretty sure they are the ones now hanging from the ceiling in the range at David's in Weatherford.

                              I loved that place too.

I bought my first bow there with lawn mowing money, and it was a big deal when Momma would go to Fort Worth for a day of running errands, she'd drop me off at the shop, and I'd spend the afternoon there shooting.
