    The Drought

I love telling stories with pictures, and increasingly, video. Like all over Texas, we've been in the midst of a historic drought and while it's easy to gloss over the subject when looking at the problem from the outside, you need to hear personal stories to get a true feel of what people are going through.

I've been collecting a few stories of locals who've been affected by the drought and recording their perspectives for posterity's sake.

Local history may not make national news but is worth recording. As photographers, we have all of the tools we need to collect the history around us.

Powerful video, Russell. Great job capturing the images and emotions of the drought.

Did you record that with your DSLR equipment?

I did, Michael. I used a Canon5d Mark II and a 60d camera and various lenses for the rest of it.

How do you protect your DSLR equipment during those dust storms?

I don't. I just get them out and shoot. For the most part, if you can take it, they can take it.

You know, you watch something a million times and you still miss stuff. Thanks for the heads up.

Very well done, I enjoyed that. One thing that struck me is how ridiculous it is when people use the term "average rainfall". For example that fella said they got 30" in 2010 and 8/10" in 2011. An "average" of 15" over two years doesn't sound bad!

Very nice. BTW I liked the segment you did on Big Billy Kinder's show.
