    Platform for pop up blind

Any of y'all built some sort of raised platform for a pop up blind to sit on? I want to do something like that but need some ideas. I'd like to see what you guys have done.

I'm not planning on building anything too high, just get it off the ground. But that may change when I see what others have done.

Why not one of these? http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ameristep-...and/10993646ld not

I's sure thinking about it. I would install a wooden floor (3/4 inch exterior ply and painted both sides) with carpet just so it would not be cold and noisy. Then I would lag-bolt my pop-up to the wood floor and use guy wires to stabilize it in high winds.

Just a thought and it would be a quick build. Good luck in your search and may God bless the remainder of your season.

I've considered this for hunting with my wife. For those of yall who have built these. What is the advantage of only building it 3-4 feet off the ground or less? I can't see you getting much benefit and the cost would not be much greater to get it 6-8 feet up

I wanted a permanent stand at my feeder pen, with the advantages of movement and scent containment that ground blinds offer and i needed it elevated so I didn't have to shoot through panels.

10' 4x4 posts allowed me to build the platform at 4', allowing 6' of contained area for my popoup to sit in and be elevated enough to clear the 30" panels.

Plopping a tent on a platform and only attached at the bottom shouldn't be left out in the elements year round, imo. Mine is secured to the platform frame on all sides and to the roof. There is no way my popup can collapse. The tin roof keeps elements off the blind and makes the inside pitch black even during middle of the day.

You are right on their not being much benefit at 4 feet elevation, it would be better right down on the ground.
Elevation carries your scent further downwind allowing animals to bust you from well outside your setup and makes double-lung shots more difficult due to the angle. An animals vitals are more exposed from ground level and double lung shots are a piece of cake.

If you don't hunt at a feeder pen, 8' 4x4' poles would suffice and save a few dollars.
Ultimately, those trash can material ground blinds are what I would like to have, but my platform and tent is holding up great...so thats what I'll use for the next couple years.

Oh, and to the question of type of tent, its a Primos Ground Max predator den from Cabelas.

                Hope this helps.

We built a 8x8 platform. Then used 4x4 posts to raise it up about 8ft. Then used 2x4's for braces and kickers. It's super sturdy we have had 3 people in it. Only problem you will run into is a reg popup is not very tall. So at that height it's hard to get the angle you need to shoot at the ground without hitting the top of the popup. We went to academy and bought the "magnum" popup which I can't find anymore. It's over 6ft tall. And the widows open up huge.

I used 10' (4x4s) wih "elevators". Lesson I learned is build platform about two feet wider than width of popup so you have a porch to use to enter the blind. Gets kinda hairy getting into mine since it is exact dimensions of popup and way door to popup opens. I use ropes to raise and lower my things to be safe. Only worse mistake is to build platform too small I screw corners to platform and tie off walls to 2 x 4s that i have extending out appr 4' from under each side of platform. Works like a chance and it has worked like a champ for two years running. I put it out in July and take down in February. Bought the popup for $75 from sportsmanguide.

Next one I build will have framed 2 x 4 walls to act as shelves and gun rests.

PS - The porch also will serve as extra room to set up the popup tent - let me tell you, standing on a 5' x 5' platform wrestling with that dang thing sucks I ended up setting it up on the ground and pulling it up already setup.

good plan. the higher the better, I take an elevated shot with low exit any day over an eye level shot. just saying....
