    Blower Systems

Ok. After throwing 2 tons of corn this past weekend I am going to DIY a small blower system for the next go round. I have seen a couple threads here with ideas I am going to base mine off of. My questions are:

    1. Is there any particular size blower I should buy or not buy?
    2. How long will this process actually take when using to fill feeders?
    3. What should I do or not do when building this little setup?

Make sure you attach some sort of ground. The corn going through the pipe will build up a bunch of static electricity. When it discharges it will leave a mark.

The trailer I use has a little Stihl backpack blower, maybe 5hp?, gas powered of course. It starts easy and blows like a champ. I would recommend it.

Do you have to idle them up pretty high? How long does it take to fill a feeder?

Yes. Full throttle. It takes maybe 10-15 minutes to push 1,500 lbs of protein. Gotta have the "cruise control" option, unless you wanna hold down the trigger for 15 minutes.

                Blower feeder fillers

Unlike the big one above, I bought a small one from Boss Buck and use a Craftsman blower. It will fill the feeder in my avaitar (4000# ) in about 50 minutes. It will fill a regular 55 gallon drum feeder in about 5 minutes. You still have to pour each bag into the bucket but it beats the hell out of having to carry it up a ladder.

I put out 2 tons Saturday night and Sunday morning and up and down and over my bit wore me out. I have 1000# corn feeders and looking for something much easier. Thanks, I will look there as well.

You might do a search. I think someone built one several years back with a 5 gal bucket. He had pics and instructions if the thread is still around. We built ours ourselves, and use an old backpack blower. It will fill 1000# corn feeder in 10mins or so. It does not do well with protein for some reason. The blower is old and about to bite the dust which might be the problem.

I know what you mean Bluetick, when I built that feeder it took one time lugging corn up a ladder and I was buying a blower system. I like the one I have because of it's size it can be carried anywhere...think I paid $250.00 - $300.00 for it.

No matter which one you choose to buy or build yourself, you will love it

Found some pretty cheap blowers at HD. Some advertise 200+mph! Is that sufficient?

                              200 mph is plenty
