Duck hunted the Holly Bluff area quite a bit back in the early to late 90's. Saw some good deer while waiting on birds and always saw them while traveling to the area.

I have but it's been years. My issue is with living just over three hours from there is scouting time. To be successful you need to put the time in or just be lucky.

Between the time and price of fuel I haven’t in some time.

Yes there is a lot of traffic if you stay near the roads, I have hunted there for the past 4 years and I see nice deer every time. I hunt about 2 miles back a closed road though. last year on opening day I saw 19 deer some small bucks , 2 spikes , and a lot of does. Second day I saw 15 deer , nothing that was a shooter though. I have seen several big bucks there and missed a nice 9 pointer with my bow. There are a lot of deer there and you really have to scout it out. I found a little honey hole that has a nice funnel area between two recent cuts and the deer move through there all day. The majority of my deer sightings were between 10 am and 3 pm . Once people start leaving the woods the deer start moving. The only deer I saw at daylight or dark were spooked by someone that was leaving or coming in and walking the road.
I had a nice buck patterned that was crossing 2262 around 10:30 am my first year there, I put my climber in the night before and was in stand well before daylight . Around 10:30 i saw my buck crossing the road on opening day and heading my way , unfortunately so did a car load of hunters. One guy grabbed his gun and came running in the woods right behind my buck and spooked him past me too fast to shoot. the hunter saw me and gave a wave and went back to his car. That was the last time I hunted near any road that was open . We saw one guy last year that killed a nice buck about halfway back the road we go in on and he had one of those electric bikes , we were sweating and about to die on our mountain bikes and he breezed right by us. Good luck

im just try to make a dec to buy the type II permit to hunt that during bow season or just hunt the other part of the forest. the buck in my avatar was killed off 511 just east of ratcliff.

man I have had a tough time there lately, use to see plenty of does, not seeing the deer I use to see. Must be the drought, maybe they are closer to the river now.
