    Portable chicken coop

Built this for the wife. Still need to paint it, but wanted to give the lumber time to dry out. 5 X10 with 3 nesting boxes. Access to boxes from the back so you don't have to go into the coop to gather eggs. Was a fun build. Built it in my shop, then rolled it out to the yard with the tractor. Looking for some more Americaunas if anybody has some?

Nice build. My old lady "won" a duck over Easter weekend and now I have a darn duck and two duck dogs! Looking to build something like this but on a smaller scale so I can roll his pin around in the yard.

How many chickens can live in a coop that size?

        coop size

According to the experts, they say 3-4 ft2 per chicken. So if you go by that, this is 50ft2 , 12 to 15 chickens? We don't need that many! I figure 6 to 8 will be max for us and they will not be crowded. They also say 1 nesting box per 3 chickens if your just gathering eggs and not letting the hens set. I have 3 box's, so that should work for 6-8?

          Very nice indeed.

I've been building a "chicken tractor" for 5 quail (was 6 ) my son acquired from his class' egg incubation project this last week. I'll have to get a pic or two as I hope to wrap it up in the next couple of days.

Nice coop, way to cover all of the necessities. Looks like you put some good thought into it and then put it all into one nice project.

Nice work. I'm about to build one for my sisters house so my daughter has a few and we get some eggs. Like the layout.

Search poop tray for placing under their roosting stick or perch. Save lots of time in coop clean up..... I use a large plastic storage unit like what is used to store items under a bed. Works great with wood chips and straw in it and when changed, maybe monthly, right into the compost bin

Now you got me thinking! Rev 3! Finally all 6 using the roost perch, so this might work!
                    Thanks!

                      Chicken Scientist

My wife calls me the "Chicken Scientist". She's being sarcastic of course. Learned everything I know from backyardchickens.com, which ain't much.

                      Nice coop.

                              Couple suggestions to prevent
                              - Use galvanized 1/4" wire cloth, not chicken wire
                              - Bury 18" of this cloths a couple inches underground from the coop out to prevent animals from digging under to get in
