Cull buck down, Comal Co. (long read)

    The drought is over!
He ain't no Booner, but he'll eat just fine.
    Here's the story:
Went out Sat AM early with my cousin-in-law and sat in this Primos Vision ground blind out at my buddy's ranch about 15 min from here. Stayed dark forever that morning. Had a young buck and 2 does out real early...well before dawn, and they split...then a smaller buck...then, the boss doe found something about the situation she didn't like and voiced her disapproval for the whole stinkin county to hear. Bye bye deer. (for now) Feeder goes off, and a few deer show up, but VERY nervy and not happy with the blind. It's been there all season, BUT my buddy is a dang chicken and doesn't like to make "long" shots, so it's set up like 10 yards from the pasture road (sendero). Not cool, but his ranch, so we go with it.
A big doe finally comes into range and squares off broadside, so I draw on her and settle down for the shot. Cousin has the vid camera, so he hits record...bzzzzzbzzzzwhirrrwhirrbzzzz....hasta-la doe.
10 minutes go by and I hear a vehicle coming and something rattling...look out the side window and it's my buddy's dad with a coffee can full of corn wot the window, shaking it and dribbling it down the road. Go DAD! He Lives on the next hill over (same ranch) and feeds the roads every day in this fashion. within 10 minutes of his drive by, I have 5 does approaching from my left. We've put the video cam away, and pulled the shoot through screens shut and switched from Rage to Grizz tricks now in hopes that they won't be so freaked out by this dang blind. No such luck...they get within 15-18 yds and freeze up...eyeballs on the blind...full alert...then, tails up...see ya.
We finally give up and walk back to the house and talk to my buddy. Tell him abou the situation with the blind and we decide to back it up another 10 yds or so under this huge oak. Right now it's on the edge of the canopy...now we've got it set up next to the trunk. Wind is ot of the North and had been in our faces so they didn't smell anything.

Forgot to put the clothes in the dryer sat PM so the Sun AM hunt was a wash...was nice to sleep in, though. Got to the blind around 3:45. This afternoon. Rubbed down with cedar when I got to the ranch, so I was smelling like a cedar brake when I crawled in the blind. Sprayed a couple shots of fresh buck pee on some tobacco weed behind the blind just for extra insurance.
Feeder went off at 4 ish, and right before that I had a young 9 point wandering around in the brush on the north side of the feeder on the other side of the fence. That bought in a few does, and a really NICE 8 point, we've named "Ocho Grande". He'll go P&Y right now, but is young, so he walks...was nice watching him anyway. They piddled around for 15 min or so, and then Ol Boss doe blew like crazy again, and they got nervy. Well...here she comes stomping in, all p'd off...right in front of me...broadside. I draw and get ready to give her a dirt nap when I see Mr Trash Spike come wandering in from my left. I let down and decide, boss doe can live till thanksgiving weekend. Trash boy wanders in, but remains perpendicular to me for a while...then Ocho Grande hops back over the fence to the right and trash turns and takes 3 or 4 steps and stops, and starts eating again. He didn't even duck when the Grizz Trick blew through him. He jumped straight up, took off and ran about 10 yds down the rd, and hopped the fence between pastures (still their place). Watched him run in and keel over...no more than 40 yds. Texted my buddy, and nocked another arrow (it was only 4:35). Had 3 does wandering in when my buddy rolled up on the 4 wheeler. Took us about 3 minutes to find him...LOVE that kind of tracking job.
He's getting cut into steaks and ground meat.

    And...the money shot

Spike on one side, fork on the other.

          BWAHAHA
I almost sprayed beer out my nose...Sporks...LOVE IT!

Yeah...he's a trophy in my book for sure...heart was pounding before I pulled the trigger. Saw the arrow hit and felt good about it (little farther back than I wanted, but still hit lungs and liver). Bubbles on arrow.

Guys at Granzin's wanted to know what I wanted to do with the antlers...I told em to saw em off, I was keeping em. Got some funny looks from a couple other camo clad guys in there picking up meat.
