I finally got my first bow buck.
I climbed in the stand this morning at 6am and watched the morning sun dawn the horizon around 6:30. It was a misty, foggy, cool morning with frost on the ground and a nip in the air. With it being the rut I decided to try a few calls and gave a few grunts followed by a few estrus bleats 15 minutes apart on a 15 year old deer call I found in my hunting bag. At 6:50 I saw a young 7 come patrolling in at 75 yards a with his head down and neck swollen. I gave a couple estrus bleats and by 6:55 he came sneaking in at 15 yards looking for some lovin. I played with him with some more bleats and grunts and kept myself and him entertained for about 5 minutes. Then he decided to try to come around behind me. I then grabbed my homemade rattling bag I made out of some pvc and an old camo shirt sleeve. I gave it a couple of tickles and clicks and he took off like he saw a ghost. But then came an old 10 charging in at 75 yards and he proceeded to try and demolish a small tree and low hanging limbs all around him. Needless to say He was P***ed! I just watched in amazement. After a minute or two of thrashing a tree, the young 7 darted across the field by the 10 who gave him a short chase and I stopped him with some grunting and rattling. He stood there looking in my direction then he started after the 7 again. I gave him a snort wheeze and he stopped again. I quickly followed with another snort wheeze and he came in on a string and stopped broadside at 25 yards. I brought my Z7 to full draw and released...Thwack !!The Easton ST Epic, tipped with a Rage 2 blade, passed completely through like a hot knife through butter with a double lung shot. The 10 took off and blood flowed like a river and he fell in view only 70 yards from the shot. This is my biggest deer ever and I am super proud of him. I scored him at 125 7/8. Let me know what y'all think.
