~Making the leap to TRAD ! any advice on Samick Sage bows ? (link)

    Hello all,
recently I've been thinking I'ld like to try my hand at trad recurve style bows.

I'm not sure what's good and what's not- but don't want to spend over $200 on my first trad bow.

I found this on ebay :

Samick Sage T/D Recurve Bow 62"/40# RH - New

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Any advice on this bow ?

good maker ? straight shooter ?

    If this comes to fruition,..
    Next step are the arrows.

I shoot a 30"draw on my DXT with release.
I pulled back my bow with just fingers and I'm good at that length as well.

    I figure 40lb at 28" won't "over-bow" me.
Don't need to make that mistake.

what length arrows should I shoot from his recurve ?
same as my 29.5" on the dxt ?

    what spine ?
any particular arrow I should pursue ?

I've seen some nice custom CEDAR WOOD arrows on ebay.
Can I shoot carbon fiber arrows ?

    how about the tips ?
definitly want to try my hand at hunting after LOADS Of practice.
    broadhead recomendations ?

thanks all for helping a newbie !

    c

If you're gettin a new bow, can I have your old one?

Getting the right arrow for a trad bow is quite a bit different than getting one for a compound. I made that mistake ... ordered 2 dozen, thinking I got the spine right and had them cut to my length. They flew like a dog terd wraped in duck tape!

You really need to try different arrows. If you're close to someone like Ol Man, he can really get you on the fast track to gettin' right ... without him and Chunky, I'd still be scratchin my head!

Takoma - I shoot a Samick Spirit and love it. It is a real good bow for the money that you spend on them.

Doug - Did you hit your head???? You don't shoot recurves!!

Kevin - I don't think you can shoot Doug's bow, he doesn't shoot a youth model..........

See, start mentioning the recurve champ. and look at ya. I shoot a bow #41 at 28" and i shot 30" on compound. Mine is only #41 at my draw and I shoot a .600 spine full length with 125&145gr tips. With wood you really need to shoot them to see which is best . Some archery sites sell a test kit or find someone to let you shoot theirs. That is easy to do on Here.

Takoma - I shoot the Beman ICS Bowhunters out of mine. I shoot the 500s at 29.5" arrows. I shoot them same arrows out of a 40# and 50# recurve. They also fly good out of a 55# longbow. All made by Samick.
                            MY ARROWS

You can get the test kits from them if you want the Beman arrows.

Takoma - I would suggest the 600 spine Goldtip Entradas - they are inexpensive and will fly great out of that bow.
