I headed to the piney woods on Friday to hunt with my good friends Kirk Brenner and Tony Sulewski @ the Brenner Tree Farm in Crockett, TX. After getting smoked on both hunts Saturday (saw nothing), I was very disappointed. The wind was unpredictable South, South East...so I opted to hunt some B- stands. I woke around 4:45am Sunday morning and there it was...North wind and a drop in temp. So off to a stand we call 1620 where a good scrape and and rub line was.
About 6:50am a deer came in and couldn't tell what it was but it was getting light fast. 10 minutes later the deer steps in 1 of the 3 shooting lane I had and at this point I knew this was the deer Kirk had seen before. One problem...the shooting lane was small and for the next 15 minutes, he had his rear to me. Clipped on, heart pumping and ready to rock he made his mistake and gave me a quartering away shot. I held low and aimed for the opposite shoulder and let the new Slick Trick fly.......As he blew up out of there I knew a plan came together. Great blood trail from impact, I found him at 30yds.
