Generic bookshelf gift-duck

I made several of these last month as Christmas presents - I just finished this one for a friend's housewarming gift. I really enjoy carving stuff- very relaxing.

the duck looks really good

It's basswood, which is similar to white pine except it has a tighter grain so it's very easy to carve. I slopped some dark stain on it and finished it with tung oil.

TTax - Yes! Maybe some day if the planets align and I actually shoot something worth mounting we can work out a deal - I'll make the down payment on my mount with some ducks!

I use a bandsaw to cut out the basic profile. After that it's knives, a rasp, a tiny drum sander on a Dremel tool and lots of sandpaper.
