I know it's a pretty simple job, but I'd still like to see a pic or two of ones that were posted on the old TBH discus.

Pics anyone? Joey? Richard?

I saw them at Gander Mt store on Hwy 290. They were very pricey IMO. Looks simple enough though. Pics would be nice of any homemade ones.

Dang, and I thought this was a thread on how to make one. I really like the ones I've seen in stores, but they are very pricey.

Devin, I've got a bunch of aged fence wood that would make a great one! I'll let ya have it if you'll go ahead and build me one too! I'd provide the cooler, of course.

My wife thought I was crazy when I wouldn't let them haul away the old wood when we rebuilt our fence....:O

Devin
01-09-2007, 05:05 PM
Having not made one, I don't know about that, Rudey. How 'bout I get the wood & make mine. If it's too hard, I'll return the wood sans a few pieces. Deal?

I made one out of a Coke cooler I bought at the pawn shop for $10. It will keep things cold until the power goes out. :)

I have a client that makes those and sells them at First Monday Trade Days here in W'ford and also at Canton every month. Not sure what he gets for them but can custom make them to your specifications if he doesn't already have what you want.

There really aint no istructions on buildin em.

I just built a box around the cooler. Put legs on it. Trimmed it out. Built a lid around the lid. You can use staples and/or liquid nails to secure the lid to the lid.

On the drain...I just removed the female cap, took some 1/2" CPVC and sanded it to a cone shape, so it would fit in the drain, and adapted it to a faucet.

Make sure, you make the bottom of the box strong enough to hold the cooler, 3 cases of bottled beer and a bag of ice!!!

That'll work, Joey. Although there ain't no welding, I bet I can pull it off. :)

Appreciate it, Amigo!

Here's mine. I'm planning on building more and changing the design a little. I also need to find a source of the metal decorations.

I got mine in F'burg, but doubt I'll be back that way anytime soon. Canton may be an option. I also have another place in mind I need to check. If none of these places pan out you may get a call. :)

Wow!! I have a couple of extra coolers and now I know what to do with them!

BTW - I don't need a 5 day cooler. We usually drink all the beer before the ice runs out in 1 day. ;)

Preciate it Dale... May just have to buy you a beer.

What about the wood?? It looks like old fence boards, but all my old fence boards are too rotten to use. Do you just put out some pickets until they turn gray and then use them?

Joey~AP
01-11-2007, 06:03 PM
Ol Widow woman behind me, had her fence fallen down. It was cedar, but the 4x4's rotted at ground level.

I built her a new fence and saved what was salvagable.

Best bet if ya cant find any ol wood is go get new cedar pickets, make a cooler....and set back in a lawn chair, with a cold beer and watch er get old and gray!

Thats what I did with my wife! :)

I saw several booths at Wimberly Market Days peddlin the rustic ornaments. Also are the ice chests removable from the frame or are they fastened somehow?

In Llano there is that spur/metal company right off the bridge that carries all kinds off metal decoration etc... I have their number at my office if anyone is interested.

For you guys in Houston, there is a place on Telephone Rd. that carries tons of decorative cast iron and stamped sheet metal items like these. Here is the link: http://www.steelsupplyinc.com/index.html

Lots of stuff in the front showroom thats not online.

The drain is piped into the faucet and the plastic lid is stapled/glued to the wooden lid. So it aint comin out!

Mines not as fancy, but I built it for less than $40. Works for deer lease. I've seen small, decorative ones for sale at HEB for $100.

Do you mount the cooler level in the wood frame or put a slight incline from the drain hole back to promote more drainage?

royal_fox
02-28-2007, 08:57 PM
Naw just set it on an incline. The top won't fit right if ya try to make the cooler on a slight incline.

bundyducks

you can get a regular styrofoam cooler from wal-mart from time to time but I know Academy always has them in the cooler section.
