I have an old Bronco that serves as my "Lease Ride". It has an expensive problem with the rear window (won't roll down). Rather than spend all the money to repair it, I decided to take a flat hitch receiver basket and modify it to serve as my truck bed. I started by putting walls around it and left one end open (Removable panel) to pull heavy animals in. Then I added an "upper deck" that makes a great cooler rack. I have had two deer and a hog in there at one time and have never had a problem.

And we all know how important the "happy" cooler is!

That's a great job on that basket. Christmas is coming up soon! Better get to welding. =)

Wonder how you could make the back side open for BIG stuff like nilgai but still have the happy cooler rack??? Hmmmm...........

Steve, if you ever decide you want that rear window to roll down give me a hollar. I just fixed my rear window and it cost me $50 (cost of a new motor).

Put me on the list for one of those! Very impressive.

I could use a few of your guys that know how to weld for a couple of weekends to build me a few things. I wouldn't even know where to start.

cull--what would you say that cost ya, with the base, materials, and such.

Since I drive a Honda Pilot, throwing a field dressed deer isn't an option for me in the back, and I've been debating buying one of the baskets and using it similar to what you've done. I've got some buddies that are welders or have gear that I could use to build one...

That is a great basket. My buddy just asked me to build him a modified hitch hauler. You have some good ideas incorporated into your basket. I also like the light on the back of the Bronco.
Post some pics of the elevated platforms on the two backgroung trucks. I am always looking for ideas to enhance my hunting experience.
